Women pray during Friday prayers in Tahrir Square in Cairo, on February 11, 2011. More protests were set for that day, which were expected to get violent once again, as demonstrators faced off with armed thugs and riot police. To the surprise of many though, Mr. Mubarak finally conceded his office that night, and resigned from his presidency after his Vice President, Omar Suleiman, announced his departure. Thousands took to the street in celebration, but it was only the beginning of many more protests to come. The country has since grappled with continued protests against overarching military power, upcoming parlimentary elections, and the trial of their former President over the deaths of 365 protestors who died during the revolution.
